Tennis and Mac on the Hudson

Manhattan-Tribeca

When the weather is beckoning you to get outdoors, head to the Hudson River Park. Whether you bike, run or walk, the path runs directly along the Hudson river from the Financial District all the way to the Upper West Side. It’s a beautiful stretch of park to enjoy whether you’re on a day date or a family outing. For me personally, nothing better than a little tennis match followed by take out from Westville Hudson enjoyed river side.

The courts at the Hudson River Park offer an amazing option for tennis fans. They are first come first serve (serve as in use the court not as in the tennis term). When the weather is perfect out there is usually a line that forms along the benches but if you’re flexible on your time of play or willing to venture out in the fall or spring you can usually snag some court time. Players generally limit their matches to around an hour when there are others waiting. The courts are hard courts and offer amazing views of the Hudson River and the Freedom tour.

Westville is a great option either before or after your match. It’s a super laid back spot offering delicious American fare and some very creative vegetable dishes. There is plenty of outdoor seating if you’ve gotten your sweat on earlier. They also offer takeout which is a great option if it’s a beautiful day and you want to eat by the river. If you aren’t avoiding dairy make sure you get their smoky mac and cheese it’s kind of a big deal. it’s one of the most popular dishes and consistently rated as a top mac and cheese in the city. It combines elbow pasta with a creamy melted cheddar and gouda-bechamel blend. Get it with bacon if you can!
